DEFINITION OF OMNIOCRACY |
|
om·ni·oc·ra·cy
- [om-nee-ok-ruh-see] 1. Government for all living beings; a form of government in which the supreme power is exercised by elected representatives whose responsibility it is to equally consider the interests of all living beings; a form of government in which all living beings are constituents. 2. A political system based upon the philosophical principle of giving value and consideration to all living beings within a community.
Term originated by Dr. Charlotte Laws in 1995. She discusses the idea in
her book Armed for Ideological Warfare and in articles, such as
"From Democracy to Omniocracy." She argues that democracy is an
elite and unjust form of government that ignores the interests of the truly
powerless and voiceless members of society, namely nonhuman animals.
